Recanati Winery was established in 2000 by Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked. Their aim was to create a new winery which would produce original, quality Israeli wine. The winery’s philosophy is to produce local and original wines, wines that will best express the local terroir.
Winemakers Gil Shatsberg and Kobi Arviv spearhead the winemaking process. Shatsberg, a UC Davis graduate, acquired vast experience through his work in some of California’s leading vineyards – including the Trefethen Vineyards in Napa and Jordan Winery in Sonoma – as well as in top Israeli wineries, including the founding of the Amphora Winery.
Arviv, began his career in the winery in 2006, and gradually learned the wine world by himself. He was appointed winemaker in 2011. A talented and original winemaker, Arviv believes in matching Mediterranean varieties to the Israeli climate. The winery has vineyards in the best growing areas in the country, and is very particular about growing unique Mediterranean varieties such as Petite Sirah, Marselan and Carignan and local varieties (Marawi), while simultaneously nurturing classic international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and others.
The winery is proud of its unprecedented achievements in recent years, both locally and internationally. However, we are not resting on our laurels and continue to cultivate new vineyards, conduct research in agriculture and wine, and – most importantly – we produce wine with great passion and a constant drive to improve and give maximum expression to the wonderful Israeli terroir at our disposal. Recanati Winery, the Symbol of Excellence.
